How Waiakea Water Became More Eco-Friendly Than Other Bottled Waters

The bottled water industry has had to undergo a variety of changes over the past few years, with the majority of these focusing on sustainability and environmental-friendliness. This has been driven by the demands of the market, with quite a significant number of consumers demanding that the products they use be as eco-friendly as possible.

There have been several ways that many of them have aimed to do so. Perhaps the most notable of these is that the packaging used with bottled water has become increasingly more recyclable. While this has been a significant step forward for the industry, the vast majority of these products are still single-use, which is something that many consumers want to avoid.

The Purity and Health of Water are Essential for Consumers:

Alongside this, many customers now look to purchase bottled water that has been sustainably gotten from healthy sources. This is in stark contrast to a significant number of firms that use filtered city water in their products. Despite these increasing demands, many companies in the bottled water industry have been slow to change. Much of this has been driven by the fact that a large number of them don’t believe the investment would be worth it.

However, this doesn’t mean that there aren’t a variety of firms that have taken up the mantel. One of the more prominent of these is Waiakea Water, which was established in 2012 by Ryan Emmons. The entrepreneur had the idea for the company when he was in Hawaii and noticed the taste and purity of the water that was on offer. As such, he put a significant amount of research into why this was the case.

By doing so, he realized that the nearby Mauna Loa volcano was responsible for filtering the water, which ensured that it was naturally alkaline. Alongside this, Ryan Emmons found out that there weren’t any firms taking advantage of this, although there were a considerable number of customers looking for a product of that nature. Soon, he had developed a fully-fleshed out the idea for what would become Waiakea Water.

How Sustainable Water Packaging has an Impact on the Eco-system?

However, healthy and pure water wasn’t the only aspect that Emmons wanted to focus on. Instead, he wanted to ensure that the packaging that it came in was as eco-friendly as possible, which is something he put a significant amount of time into. As a result, the water itself is quite renewable, as is the packaging itself. Alongside this, he looked to work with manufacturing facilities that used a large amount of renewable energy.

The time and effort that Ryan Emmons put into this paid off; Waiakea Water has become one of the few brands to be CarbonNeutral certified. This has meant that the company can boast being made from 100 percent recycled products. Alongside this, it uses 85 percent less energy to produce than many of its competitors on the market.
