Ludlow, A Ski Town In Vermont, Says It Is Open As Winter Approaches
With the coming of the winter, Ludlow, a ski town in Vermont, wants to welcome tourists as it claims that it is very much open. A severe flood hit the town in summer, and only a few small businesses are in their rebuilding phase.
The town is waiting for the fall tourism season after severe flooding hit the town three months ago. The businesses in the town want to get the word out that they are open. Open flags now hang outside restaurants and shops in Ludlow, Vermont, as the debris and mudslide near the base of the Okemo ski resort are cleared away.
Brendan McNamara, Ludlow?s town manager, stated,
?As far as our businesses, I’d say 90% plus have reopened […] Some are still just coming down that final stretch to open, especially for the fall-winter season, but we’ve come a long way and town is ready for the winter season. Waiting with open arms.?
After July?s flooding in Vermont, Ludlow is one of the towns that got hit the hardest. This led to a lot of damage to businesses and homes with floodwaters all over. Apart from that, the flood also created damage to the town?s water treatment plant as well as the post office. However, two weeks ago, the post office opened, while the grocery store still remains closed.
Other businesses, where floodwaters did not create damage, still suffered from economic and financial losses due to the lack of visitors in the area.
Some experts and businessmen think that the ski town will not be able to meet winter demands, as there will not be enough restaurants. Many shops and restaurants are still in their rebuilding phase.
